Love in Quarantine: 3 Date Night Ideas
Here’s something worth remembering:
Spending time together outside of your daily activities is vital to the health of your relationship.
It can bring back to the feelings you had when you first started dating!
In the last post, we suggested that you and your partner create a Couple's Calendar to not only make sure you’re on the same page with what activities are going on in a given week, but also to make sure that you schedule date nights – even if those date nights have to happen at home.
Of course, we want you to be mindful of the guidelines issued by your state’s governor and the CDC, and please pay attention to your own convictions. Use your own judgement about what you are comfortable with doing outside of the house.
With that in mind, here are 3 date night ideas for right now:
Have a picnic. With some states opening their parks again, it may be a good time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. The vitamin D will improve your mood and offer other health benefits, and so will getting out of your house. However, if you’re still cautious about being out in public yet, that’s okay. You can easily throw a blanket on the floor and have a picnic in your living room. The point is to do something a little out of the ordinary.
Go to the zoo. Many states have opened their zoos again, and have implemented strict protocols for keeping the public safe. That means extra sanitizing and cleaning practices, and limiting the number of guests allowed in at one time. Again, being outside in the sunshine, holding hands, and doing something out of the ordinary can reconnect you to each other.
Of course, if you’re not comfortable being in public yet, check online to see which zoos are offering live streams and teaching workshops of their animals. For example, the Georgia Aquarium has a live feed of their beluga whales, and the Cincinnati Zoo has a livestream of their enclosures.
Support a local restaurant. Table service is available again in most places, again with strict social distancing and sanitizing practices in place. You’ll have to wear a mask while you wait for a table, but you are likely able to eat out again. Pick your favorite local place and go show them a little love. Most restaurants are still doing takeout or curbside options, so you can always bring it home if you’re more comfortable doing so. If you do eat at home, keep the TV off, sit across from each other, and have a real conversation.
We understand that the extended time of quarantine this Spring that is bleeding into these Summer months has made this a little more complicated. But, complicated doesn’t mean impossible – it just gives you an excuse to get creative!
Put on your thinking caps, use your imagination, and schedule time this week to break out of your routine and connect with your partner. It will be time well spent!
